When should an artist focus on one style?

Artists speak out about the pros and cons of staying focused on one style

I think every artist likes to be open to experimenting with their art, yet at the same time, you must have something that defines your art.

From a creative standpoint, an artist needs to move from inspiration, and it can be difficult to always create within the confines of one style. It may not be possible for highly creative people to focus too closely on one style, and there might come a time when you realize that your creative mojo depends on the variety.

As a fine artist and I only paint from inspiration. The inspiration comes typically from things that I see or feel, which changes daily. I think most artists live in that same headspace.

I recently worked on a series of portraits, and I began to feel bored with the subject. To feel excited about what I was creating, I had to switch gears and experiment with other styles. The challenge of attempting something new activates both sides of your brain, generating the juices needed for an artist to live and breathe.

I would imagine that this is the same for every artist to create something because we don’t feel alive without challenges.
