The pop star’s new song, titled “Flowers,” has smashed streaming records with 96 million streams in its first week — an impressive feat for any artist but especially powerful for one who was recently divorced from her husband.

“It’s OK to fall apart,” the singer told her millions of social media followers in a video accompanying the release.

Miley’s new single is a perfect song for the pop dance scene, which is currently dominated by female artists. She has been working with producers like Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter who are known for their work with Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Camila Cabello.

The track is full of positivity and empowerment, with lyrics like “I’ve got the strength to be who I am” and “I don’t need you to hold me up/ I don’t need you to break me down.”

Miley’s voice is full of emotion as she sings about a man who has left her heartbroken with subtle reference to her recent divorce from Liam Hemsworth, saying that she’s ready for something new: “You’re just another flower in my garden/ Another brick in my wall.”

How Miley Cyrus ‘Flowers’ Reflects the Trends ahead for Pop Music in 2023

The song is a great example of how much of a powerhouse Miley has become. She has always been known for her wild and eccentric public persona, but she also has a lot to say about the current state of pop music and society as a whole.

Miley Cyrus’s ‘Flowers’ is giving us a prediction on what Pop dance music is going to sound like this coming spring 2023.

Pop music trends ahead for 2023 include repetitive hooks, disco themes, nostalgic vibes from the ’90s and an emphasis on production quality.

Flowers by Miley Cyrus is pulling musical influences from the disco era and the ’90s. The song features an upbeat, danceable beat with a repetitive hook that is sure to get stuck in your head.

This is a good example of how the music industry adapts to what people want. Pop music has always adapted to current trends in culture and society, and as Spring nears it’s becoming more focused on the ideas of fresh renewed energy and forward moving themes.

The major difference between the current state of pop music in 2023 is that there is more emphasis on production quality. In general, all genres of music are becoming more polished as technology improves.

Even indie music producers have learned how to use the latest production software to make their music sound more professional. The result is that music has become a lot more accessible and easier to digest, which means it can reach a wider audience. This is also being seen in some of the alternative rock areas of music.

As the line between mainstream and indie music becomes more blurred, artists are finding ways to make their music stand out from the crowd. One way this is being done is by reintroducing some of the old-school elements of popular music from the past that had heavy influences on our culture.

For example, many bands have begun using more analog synthesizers in their recordings and live performances. This gives them a unique sound that stands out from other acts who are using digital instruments exclusively.

Pop music is pulling from nostalgic trends like Disco and Dream Pop and 90’s R&B. This is seen in acts like Haim (added to my Curators Picks Playlist) , who have a retro sound that combines elements of both Disco and Dream Pop while also having some R&B influences. Other artists are taking influence from 90’s R&B by incorporating more live instrumentation and vocals into their music, as opposed to relying on EDM synths and drum machines.

You can hear this example of this phenomenon on bands with their sound being inspired by the smooth, synth-heavy sounds of artists like Janet Jackson and Prince.

The current state of Pop Music is a complicated one

With so many different genres and sub-genres, it can be difficult to pin down what exactly constitutes “Pop Music” in 2023.

While there are still artists who are pushing the boundaries of what we think pop music should sound like, most acts fall into one of two categories: nostalgic throwbacks or experimental electronic producers. It’s simple in theory but so complex to capture that perfect mix. I think in the end it comes down to the right artist having the right song for their energy, brand and skills.

It’s in this way that Miley has excelled with her newest single , ‘Flowers’. I for one now have a new appreciation for this artist and will be watching her moves with more interest moving forward.

Happy Listening. It’s going to be an exciting Spring 2023 ahead.
