If you have noticed a drop in the reach of your posts on instagram, there’s a great reason for it. Take a look at these reasons why you may not be getting great post reach based on the July 2019 Algorithm.

It seemed that the Instagram algorithm is always changing making it harder than ever to reach your target audience without massive work spent on the platform.

But still you need to get more followers, and improve engagement on your posts so here’s what’s going down and what you can do about it.

Instagram posts are no longer getting the amount of exposure they used to. In fact, it’s been months since they did. Now, it’s rumored that only 10% of your followers are actually seeing your posts in their feed. And if you have a bunch of people following you who don’t interact with your content then that’s even worse because instagram doesn’t only pick those 10% based on last reactions. Ugh.

The feed:
Your Instagram feed isn’t just based on who you follow, it’s also based on who and what you like.

The more they think you’ll “like” that post, the higher it appears in your feed.

This is based on “past behavior on similar content and potentially machine vision analyzing the actual content of the post.”

When your post receives a ton of engagement (likes and comments), this signals the Instagram algorithm that your post is quality and resonates with that audience. This is great for them because they want people to stay on the platform so they show your post to more of your following who have a history of liking that specific kind of content.

That explains how viral content spreads so quickly on Instagram. But it also explains why you should try to stay consistent in producing content for your page that works and now change it up too much.

When you post consistently good content to Instagram, you’ll not only improve your engagement but it’s a signal to the algorithm that you’re a quality account!

Commenting and Following:

It’s now believed that Instagram not only prioritizes posts with high engagement, but may also restricts exposure based on your relationship with your followers. So give to get..

If you comment on a lot of someone’s photos or are tagged in photos with them, this signals to Instagram that they probably fall into your “friends and family” category. It’s great for both of you actually.

Both commenting on other profiles’ posts, and responding to your own comments and DMs, is super-important if you want to grow on Instagram.

Reply to every comment and try to keep that conversation going. It’s great for the health of your post.

If you are a facebook user, you can now respond to instagram comments with Facebook’s new unified Pages inbox located in the Facebook Messenger. It’s super quick and helpful.

Receiving a healthy influx of direct messages on Instagram and Facebook is a great indication that your audience is engaged with your brand and the content that you’re posting.

Times to post:

Not only does the algorithm pay attention to how much engagement your Instagram post gets, it also how long ago the photo was posted.

Instagram’s algorithm is starting to care a lot more about when you posted, instead of just the content or engagement on the post, because it always want to serve you the latest, most interesting posts.

If you post at a time when most of your followers are online, you give yourself a better chance of racking up those likes — quickly! So look at the insights on your page and try to post just before the traffic peaks. This ensures that you give a quality post the room it needs to get more of a reaction.

Hope this helps.
