This news comes at a great time as musicians flock to TikTok in hopes of finding their place among the 1 Billion users/ potential fans.

In case you didn’t know, TikTok is a video sharing platform that has really taken off over the last couple of years. As most of the videos center around doing something to music, it’s certainly a place all musicians should be.

As a musician, you can perform songs, add your music to trending video ideas, share your process and collaborate with other people on the platform. pretty much anything goes.

As of this week, musicians can now upload their own music directly to TikTok, get audience information, build a fan base and even get discovered by industry through the platform by way of their new app SoundOn.

SoundOn is the new app recently launched as a promotion and music distribution platform to support musicians who want to gain more exposure.

SoundOn is already Live in the UK, US, Brazil and Indonesia, and it lets artists upload their music directly to TikTok and RESSO. It can also distribute their music to other platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and Instagram.

Artists signing up to the platform will also get access to audience insight and development, as well as “expert advice” from a dedicated SoundOn artist team.

Global Head of Music Ole Obermann said:

“In short, we’re making it easier for [independent artists] to get their music on TikTok, and we’re going to work with them to much better understand how to reach their audiences on TikTok.”

He added: “Through SoundOn we’re going to organise the ecosystem of unsigned artists in a way that doesn’t exist today and has never existed before.

“I think that’s going to make it easier for artists to find their fans. And then for labels and publishers to find those artists. The [industry’s] entire A&R process, I think, will become more efficient off the back of it.”

How do musicians earn money on TikTok?

TikTok says that SoundOn pays out 100% royalties to music creators in the first year and 90% after that and provides a range of promotional tools and support.

How Long Can A TikTok Be? Expanded Max Video Length for 2022

Part of the TikTok platform’s success is the focus on short-form video but a new trend in 2022 shows that short form video isn’t the only thing now in TikToks wheelhouse. Looks like 10 minutes in length is about to be the sweet spot for a TikTok video in 2022. Creators will now be able to post longer videos that can tell a story much like Youtube.

How many people are on tiktok?

Out of 4.8 billion internet users worldwide, 20.83% use TikTok. Tiktok currently has over 1 billions monthly active users. TikTok has 50 million daily active users in the U.S., meaning 18.68% of American’s with mobile internet users log in every day for around 33 minutes per day. Facebook currently has an average adult US average of 35 minutes per day.

TikTok’s Gen Z penetration is high in America, with 37.3% using the social media platform at least once per month.

Will TikTok compete with Youtube?

YouTube is still comfortably the world’s largest video streaming platform, with excellent google search rankings and more than 2 billion logged-in users playing music on its service every month. In September 2020, YouTube launched its TikTok rival Shorts platform in India. That was followed by Shorts’ launch in the US, and an expansion into Latin America, Canada and the UK.

Does TikTok help artists get discovered?

I would say yes, definitely. Over 70 artists that broke on TikTok in 2020 signed major label deals. In 2021, more than 175 songs trended on the platform and then charted on the Billboard Hot 100 proving that what happens on TikTok doesn’t just stay on TikTok.

Does TikTok pay money?

The Creator Fund will pay you based on video views and engagement. You can only get paid for videos that meet TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Once you start getting paid, the money will appear in a Creator Fund Dashboard. From here, you can withdraw money to a payment platform like PayPal.
