This article will give you some amazing ideas for using instagram to get your music to stand out against the 60,000 tracks launched every day on Spotify.

Did you know that CD BABY collected $125M from Spotify streams, apple music, and youtube music listed with their distribution service in 2020?

That’s a lot of opportunities you are probably missing out on if you are not on streaming platforms. Still, at the same time, Spotify generally pays between $.003 and $.005 per stream, meaning you’ll need about 250 streams to make a dollar, so it’s not the way artists, in general, are making money with their music.

Spotify isn’t there to make money for musicians, the real purpose of the platform is to give you a tool to share your music with others. Most traffic on spotify doesn’t happen as a result of Spotify bringing people to you, they actually expect YOU to bring people to them.

I use alot of playlists and social media traffic to drive plays to music I’m promoting:

To really take advantage of the streaming platforms, you need an outside source of activity to send to your songs. If your short term plan is to get more plays on spotify, then the long term result could be to get Spotify to start qualifying the music you release.

I think 3 of the best platforms for doing that are Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Below I listed 3 amazing ways to get your Instagram followers to play your music on spotify.

3 Tips to Marketing Your music on Instagram

Let’s look at some ways to drive traffic from your Instagram page to your music on Spotify.

(This information is gathered by real example that I (Jacqueline Jax) use daily to promote the artists I work with)

  1. Commit your objective: You must always commit to a goal. If you center your activity around the goal of gaining Spotify plays, then you’ll start to get more ideas for accomplishing that goal. The success of any marketing campaign is understanding the target of that campaign and focusing just on that one action.
  2. Share your Spotify music on Instagram with one easy step: It’s easy to add Spotify music to your Instagram story. Please make sure the Spotify app is on your phone, so you can access your track on their platform. In the Spotify mobile app, choose to share your music and then select Instagram Stories. This will open the social media app and allow you to make adjustments to your story before posting. Try adding stickers and text to entice people to listen.
  3. Give people a reason to listen: with so many things distracting people on social media, always gives people a reason to listen to your song. Make sure that reason focuses on them instead of you. I share more examples of this below..

How to get people to listen:

with so many things distracting people on social media, you can’t expect to command people’s time without a great reason.

Bad Example;

‘Listen to my new song on Spotify.’

‘MY new song is out today.’

‘Come follow me on Spotify.’

These commands serve you and do not serve your audience.

Good example:

These commands tell a music lover why taking this action will serve them..

‘This song is perfect for playing on a first date.’

‘The best love song for a new relationship.’

‘Listen to this when you a feeling blue.’

‘John killed the guitar solo on our newest rock song.’

“This song will snap you out of any bad mood.’

I hope you got some great tips today. I filled my Instagram course with hours of helpful advice to make you a master of Instagram music marketing.

Give it a try; you won’t be disappointed.
