Rock Albums you need to hear…

You’re Not Alone by Semisonic

It’s been nearly a decade since I’ve heard from them but the Minneapolis trio who defined a deacde with their huge mega hit, ‘Closing Time’ has returned sounding more vital, more dynamic, and more like themselves than ever before. Produced by Dan Wilson, Semisonic’s New Ep You’re Not Alone by includes gems that mix hope and nostalgia with human connection and shared mortality. With long time bandmates John Munson (bass) and Jacob Slichter (drums), the new music is a testament to the trio’s enduring chemistry which has only grown more potent and self-assured with time. Lament by Touché Amoré

On their phenomenal fifth album, the post-hardcore band work with famed producer Ross Robinson and come away with their most affecting and resonant music yet. Album link

Live Forever by Bartees Strange

On his debut album, Live Forever, Bartees Strange pays slight homage to his past with “Mustang,” with that feeling of needing to flee your hometown — cosmic synths, a hook yelped with scrunched eyelids, an outro that drives like a Charger on a clear highway. The D.C.-based musician moves freely through many different styles — arena-rock, folk, rap — creating an album about that freedom as a Black artist and so much more. Album Link

Lady Trumpinstein by Black Angel

YOU CAN ALWAYS EXPECT JUST SOME GREAT ROCK AND ROLL FROM BLACK ANGEL. San Francisco Bay Area classic rock band Black Angel released a New Album called Lady Trumpinstein a political song in a very political time about a girl who is a Trump supporter who is in love with a guy who was a Bernie Sanders supporter. Based on a true story about the love of a beautiful, sensuous, female. It’s always about a girl. Album link

We’re in a moment of inflection creating our new world with the fragments of culture past, hints of David Bowie and Prince. The Glacial Drift comes from a progressive rock background. After struggling to maintain a consistently complete lineup, 3 members decided to strip things down and steer away from a clear prog-rock vibe and use more electronic instrumentation.

Machina is created from samples taken from jam sessions and vocalizations to form a choppy yet melodic foundation to the conceptual lyrics describing a digital existence unprotected from humanity’s destructive ways.
